Eni Plenitude S.p.A. Benefit Corporation has achieved gender equality certification according to UNI Reference Practice PdR 125:2022, a tool designed to encourage Italian companies to adopt concrete measures to bridge the gender gap.
September 25th 2024
2154. This is the year when, according to the Global Gender Gap Report 2023 published by the World Economic Forum, full gender equity will be achieved globally. A very ambitious goal, strongly supported by UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which dedicates its fifth goal to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. This is a goal that Italy embraced by introducing in 2022 the gender equality certification regulation.
Plenitude has just obtained this certification, according to the UNI PdR 125:2022 Reference Practice, following an audit process conducted by Certiquality - a leading certification body serving businesses - that recognized the company’s concrete commitment to enhancing gender equity internally. The certification was achieved after a process of measuring, reporting, and evaluating a set of multiple qualitative and quantitative indicators, distributed across six areas:
"As a Benefit Corporation, we have the responsibility to foster cultural change through concrete actions aimed at closing the gender gap and promoting inclusion and diversity. The certification obtained is not an end goal but a milestone in a daily journey made of bold choices, tangible initiatives, and a constant commitment to promoting equal treatment and opportunities for all individuals. A journey we will continue to pursue by increasingly integrating ESG areas into our business plans to create a fair and gender-neutral work environment" says Cristina Chiorazzi, Head of Diversity & Inclusion at Plenitude.
The certification is valid for three years and is subject to annual monitoring. Confirmation, therefore, requires improving the indicator scores over time, monitored through a management system that takes into account data, strategic plan progress, and updated process documentation.
The focus on gender balance, as well as on diversity and inclusion, represents a resource to be valued, a pluralistic vision that enriches the company, working every day to create a work environment where everyone can feel recognized and appreciated in their uniqueness. Over the years, this vision has been emphasized within Eni, and similarly in Plenitude, a group company, through the adoption of an Ethical Code that defines the values and principles guiding the company, a Zero Tolerance Policy outlining the reference principles and prohibited behaviors to ensure a workplace free from violence and harassment of any kind, and a Diversity and Inclusion ECG Policy that promotes the spread of D&I culture within the company through ongoing training, communication, and engagement initiatives.
The focus on gender equality is manifested in human resources processes, as well as in corporate welfare plans and the protection of parenthood and work-life balance, facilitated by services dedicated to post-maternity return and interventions based on shared parenting.
Plenitude has embraced this corporate culture and, consistent with its status as a Benefit Corporation, pays particular attention to Diversity & Inclusion. It has a dedicated body, consisting of the sustainability committee and the D&I unit, which manages and monitors issues related to inclusion, gender equality, and integration. Specifically, processes have been modified and implemented to identify, address, and resolve any form of non-inclusiveness, and specific goals related to gender equality have been defined. Human resources processes have been integrated to promote inclusion, gender equality, and the integration of all people, starting with neutral selection processes, onboarding, and performance evaluation. Equal participation in training programs is guaranteed, and internal mobility is based on the principles of an inclusive and gender-equal organization.
This commitment extends beyond the company itself, as Plenitude shares it with all its people, partners, and society through targeted communication initiatives. Among these is the partnership with the Olimpia Milano basketball team, whose players wore t-shirts with messages raising awareness on women’s rights and gender discrimination during International Women’s Day 2024. Additionally, events like a live-streamed meeting with writer and theater performer Gabriella Greison were organized, where she told the emotionally and symbolically impactful stories of six women scientists of the 20th century, selected to celebrate March 8th. Plenitude also supports Eni's collaboration with Valore D, through which Plenitude promotes the Inspiring Girls program, showcasing its own role models. The project, developed internationally, is aimed at younger generations and seeks to encourage girls to follow their aspirations, free from stereotypes, thanks to testimonials in schools from women professionals in STEM fields.
Lastly, the company promotes more respectful and discrimination-free communication, as language plays a fundamental role in creating a welcoming workplace that fosters individual well-being. This was emphasized and shared during the webinar "Communicating (is) Inclusion – Words and Thoughts for Well-being", organized with the support of an agency specializing in inclusive and accessible communication.
The path toward gender equality is also outlined in the 2023 Sustainability Report and Impact Statement, which sets three important goals for 2025: full gender pay parity, gender balance within the company (a goal already achieved by Plenitude in Italy), and 40% of managerial positions in Italy and abroad to be held by women.
