It will be an opportunity to explore new digital spaces and discover Plenitude's virtual planet and its narrative on energy transition.

1992: the term "metaverse" is used for the first time. More than thirty years later, the metaverse has become a reality, thanks to a multitude of ecosystems and projects exploring the potential of virtual worlds in their own way. Among these projects, Plenitude stands out with Futura, a virtual planet where community users can reach new levels of gameplay while discovering energy transition, through more conscious and efficient energy choices.
From October 30 to November 3, Futura by Plenitude will be featured at Lucca Comics & Games with an immersive experience, blending the retro-futuristic charm of the experience with an arcade aesthetic, to convey environmental awareness concepts in a new way to thousands of visitors.
The term "metaverse" was coined in 1992 to describe an immersive virtual world, accessible through avatars, where users could interact, socialize, and make purchases, going beyond (meta) the universe (verse). What was once considered an insight has materialized into successful virtual platforms that have paved the way for increasingly realistic and immersive experiences, to the point that in recent years the term has become commonplace. But what exactly is the metaverse?
The Extended Reality & Metaverse Observatory of the Politecnico of Milan defines it as "an immersive, persistent, interactive, and interoperable ecosystem, consisting of multiple interconnected virtual worlds where users can socialize, work, make transactions, play, and create assets, also accessible via immersive devices."
In simpler terms, the metaverse represents the evolution of online interaction, moving from text-based websites and closed ecosystems to shared and interconnected spaces (virtual worlds) where users interact through avatars. These new platforms create persistent worlds where users can freely move and meet other avatars in real-time. Each world is designed to host virtual communities and specific content, with its own business models and rules. It is an immersive and interconnected digital ecosystem, also enabled by Extended Reality (augmented reality) technologies. Interoperability will allow the sharing of data and resources between virtual worlds, where users can create, own, and exchange digital assets. Therefore, it is not a single virtual world but a network of interconnected worlds, thanks to technological solutions like Blockchain and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens).
In this scenario, in 2024, Plenitude launched the virtual planet Futura, an ecosystem made up of five distinct continents, hosted on the most popular platforms, including Spatial, Fortnite, Roblox, and Rec Room, interconnected by a shared story and goal: Developing a community with more conscious and sustainable energy choices.
Following the launch of the first continent on Spatial in June, Futura Ville was introduced on Roblox this summer. This fall, Future Tracks will arrive on Fortnite. The remaining two continents will be completed in 2025, thanks to continuous development and user engagement, as they are invited to discover the value of community and transfer the skills acquired in the metaverse to the real world.
A unique opportunity to learn more about Futura by Plenitude will be Plenitude’s participation in the next edition of Lucca Comics & Games, the famous community event dedicated to comics, gaming, video games, animated cinema, and cosplay, scheduled from October 30 to November 3. During those days, Plenitude will set up a space in the Loggiato Pretorio, a historic structure located in the central Piazza San Michele. Visitors will be able to experience an innovative arcade that will transport them into a retro-futuristic, immersive, and contemporary atmosphere.
The setup, featuring a "Futura" LED sign and a large inflatable Planet suspended at the center of the stand, will have arcade cabinets as its pulsating heart, representing the gaming experience. Their design is inspired by the classic models of the 1950s and '60s, and the games developed on the various platforms for the Futura project will be the main attraction. People will simply have to approach and interact to embark on a virtual journey into energy forms and environmental awareness.
