Business and Sustainability: Plenitude’s integrated model
-
27 June 2025
The company engages in dialogue on concrete sustainability and business projects, a vital combination in the energy transition journey.
When an international team of young people joins forces with a clear mission, they bring forward innovative ideas capable of driving change from within. This driving force gave birth to Plenitude’s International Sustainability Day, a day conceived by the ZustainabilitY Board, an initiative representing Plenitude’s Gen Z and Y and developed by the “Internal Communication & Change Management” and “Sustainability and D&I” teams. International Sustainability Day aimed to raise awareness of how sustainability is integrated into every business decision at Plenitude, through real-life stories shared by Plenitude’s people. To ensure broad participation and interactive engagement, the initiative was organized with a G-Local approach: employees gathered physically at their locations worldwide, all connected via livestream and engaged through interactive activities such as crosswords and online quizzes to learn about Plenitude’s key ESG achievements in 2024.
ESG strategies and results
CEO Stefano Goberti opened the event by presenting the positive economic and operational results for 2024, which generated value with an EBITDA of €1.1 billion. Most notably, the event highlighted the distinctiveness of Plenitude’s industrial model, which integrates an increasingly strong commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance key performance indicators) across its Retail, Renewables, and e-mobility sectors. Business decisions are evaluated not only economically but also in terms of their impact on people and local communities, as shown through key findings from the 2024 Sustainability Report and Impact Report (Link).
During his address, CEO Goberti emphasized the strategic importance and meaning of certain ESG KPIs, particularly those identified by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and institutional investors as critical for evaluating a company’s sustainability performance. He explained, for example, how emissions intensity (CO₂ per kWh) serves as an indicator of efficiency and the composition of the production mix, and how the percentage of investments aligned with the EU taxonomy reflects the company’s commitment to directing capital toward sustainable economic activities. The analysis of these parameters demonstrated Plenitude’s alignment with ESMA’s guidance. The shared results underscore the company’s commitment to combining sustainability with investment profitability, an approach considered essential for an effective and lasting energy transition.
Voices from the Plenitude world
The overall picture was further enriched by a session designed to show how sustainability is embedded in daily operational reality. It emerged that the "Sustainability by design" approach translates into innovative solutions across various business areas.
In the Renewables sector, there was a focus on cutting-edge agrivoltaic applications, which harmonize renewable energy production with agricultural land use. In Retail, initiatives include easy installment plans, loyalty programs, and dedicated services that encourage responsible behavior, supported by the positive impact of experience stores as meeting places for sharing company values. Additionally, the development of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) is fostering self-consumption and local energy sharing. In the field of e-mobility, charging solutions are not only seen as infrastructure but also as real drivers of business growth and local development.
Technology plays a key role in all these developments, anticipating the broader theme of the relationship between innovation and sustainability. This was explored during the International Sustainability Day by science communicator Massimo Temporelli, who offered a fascinating perspective on the connection between human evolution and technology. His vision aligns perfectly with Plenitude’s path, where innovation is consistently directed toward solutions that are both efficient and aligned with energy transition goals. The company’s commitment to shared responsibility also extends into the digital realm: another idea born from the ZustainabilitY Board is the creation of the Digital Sustainability Guidelines, an internal tool designed to optimize the use of technological devices and encourage virtuous digital behaviours in everyday life.
Living sustainability: active engagement and lasting impact
For all Plenitude employees, International Sustainability Day was a vibrant and participatory experience, designed to make sustainability an increasingly tangible value. To encourage engaging learning and foster collaboration, Plenitude also integrated innovative approaches like gamification. Across all of the company’s global offices, educational games were offered, allowing participants to explore the content of the 2024 Sustainability Report and Impact Report interactively.
The impact of this day is set to continue: further initiatives are planned in the coming months to keep attention focused and to continue fostering, together with all Plenitude employees, a culture of sustainability fully integrated into the business model.
